Here are my photos from a pretty little village tucked in a valley in the Mixteca region of Oaxaca state, about two hours from the city.
A exceptionally tidy pueblo in a picturesque setting.
We ate in the grandma’s kitchen beside our hotel, Casa de mi Abuelita, the only hotel in town, although there were also nice ecoturismo cabañas for visitors.
Luckily, our friend Denise brought lunch.
Animals and our host just outside the hotel.
We had some easy hiking with a young guide, a beautiful misty, green valley in these dry hills. Then the gentle rain started, unusual at this time of year.
We kept going. And crouched through a slippery cave with squeaking bats visible on the ceiling.
An impressive, brand new, stone stairway down to the waterfalls built in expectation of more tourism.
The waterfalls were lovely, but by then we were soaked.
We had no dry jackets so wore our bedspreads on the chilly walk to supper at the comedor. Authentic Mexican fashion!
It was a fun little adventure, and always a refreshing experience to get out of the city.
The next morning we watched a lot of booze being poured into the earth, as I described in my last post.
