Yellow Oaxaca. Another reason to love this city.
On many streets the tree they call Primavera is an explosion of brilliant yellow that nearly hides the leaves. It happens in January or February when I'm sometimes in the city and I can hardly walk by without clicking a photo. If there is a matching taxi that happens to be passing I'll stop for sure, every time.
Instant happiness, especially against a dark blue sky.
I based my choice of a Spanish school one year on a cheery yellow patio. Below is Flor, la directora, and a classmate of mine, both holding the school's mascot pajarito. The language school is called Spanish Magic, and although I really enjoyed my weeks there it's not an accurate name by any means. There's no magic shortcut to learning a language as far as I know.
A bit more yellow... impish kindergarten kids, a young tree in a museum courtyard, a street lit mural of Frida and Diego.
My favourite time of day in Oaxaca may be the early evening, the "magic hour" between daytime and dark, when the streets are alive and the light is golden. This photo taken at dusk near our apartment last year, with another yellow tree, inspired my coloured pencil drawing.
I have high hopes of seeing these yellows again in February 2022. In an optimistic mood, we just booked an apartment. You might want to add Oaxaca to your list of future destinations to see the yellow trees. And the crafts, the mole, the mezcal, the markets, the museums, the perfect winter weather...
In normal times there are direct flights from various US cities. We fly from Houston or Mexico City.
